We are seeking a highly dynamic and experienced Corporate Controller to lead and oversee our US and Global accounting operations. This position reports to the Vice President of Finance. The role requires a deep understanding of US GAAP, and is critical in ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of our financial processes across a wide range of accounting functions. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in corporate accounting, technical accounting, financial reporting, and audit management, with a proven ability to lead high-performing teams in a complex, fast-paced environment.
We will rely on this role to ensure accurate financial reporting on all filings, compliance with regulatory requirements, management of the relationship with the external auditors, and to provide strategic financial guidance to senior management. This role is critical in helping our Leadership maintain the financial health of the company and support the continued growth and success of the business.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee Global Accounting Operations: Manage core technical areas including Corporate Accounting, Technical Accounting, Consolidations, Intercompany Accounting, Monthly Close, External Audit Management, and Financial Reporting. Partner cross-functionally to ensure timely and accurate processing of payments, payroll, commissions, banking, funding, regulatory filings, and other operational activities.
- Financial Statement Preparation: Ensure the timely and accurate preparation of monthly financial packages, and quarterly and annual financial statements in accordance with US GAAP, IFRS, and applicable local standards for international filings.
- Month-End and Year-End Close: Oversee and ensure the smooth execution of monthly, quarterly, and year end financial close and reporting processes.
- Compliance Management: Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations, primarily pertaining to Tax and Money Tranmitter License compliance.
- Internal Controls and Process Improvement: Continuously evaluate, develop, implement, and maintain robust internal control policies and procedures across the Accounting organization and its upstream dependencies.
- Audit Coordination: Partner with External Audit teams to ensure effective and timely completion of audits. Identify areas for improvement and integrate changes into the overall process improvement strategy.
- 409a and Cap Table Management: Continuously monitor and maintain our cap table equity transactions and assist leading 409a processes.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Coordinate with cross-functional teams to support business initiatives and achieve both Accounting organization and Company-level goals.
- Strategic Financial Insights: Provide financial insights and analysis to support long-term planning and growth initiatives.
- Strategic Partnership and Execution: Collaborate with the VP of Finance and the Executive team to develop and execute the Accounting organization’s strategy, scaling operations as the company grows and evolves.
- Process Improvement and Automation: Work with the VP of Finance to strategize, prioritize, and execute process improvement initiatives, including streamlining and automation projects.
- Team Leadership and Development: Coach and mentor key leaders within the Accounting organization. Ensure the management, mentoring, and development of the broader Accounting team, fostering a culture of high performance and continuous improvement.
Ideal Candidate Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Active CPA license is required.
- 15+ years of relevant professional experience, with at least five years experience in a similar Controller role with high-growth, technology-focused companies. Preference for those with public accounting experience at a top firm.
- Extensive experience with Money Transmitter Licenses (MTLs) from a financial and compliance perspective.
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, with demonstrated experience in revenue recognition (ASC 606), equity transactions (ASC 505), stock compensation (ASC 718), and consolidations.
- Proven experience in a similar role, preferable in private and publicly traded companies of comparable size or larger.
- Proven ability to hire, manage, and mentor top-performing teams; experience leading a dispersed accounting team is a plus.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams and drive initiatives.
