About the Opportunity
We’re looking for a Product Designer with a passion for learning, a kind heart, a positive attitude, and a great sense of humor to join our growing team. The Product Designer will work alongside our Design Director, fellow Senior Designers and collaborate with a dedicated Product Manager partner. You'll have the opportunity to grow your skills while contributing to a mature design system and helping shape the future of government financial software.
The Product Designer will be a key player on an incredible team as we execute our mission to help local governments and school districts take the next step from good to great.
Key Responsibilities:
- Own UX/UI decisions for the Financial Applications product area, from initial concept through shipped experience.
- Use Figma to establish keyframe designs and interface concepts that serve as the foundation for building in Cursor.
- Work directly in Cursor — using agent, planning, and ask modes — to refine interactions, polish UI details, and iterate on the experience.
- Connect Figma and Cursor via the Figma MCP to keep design context intact as you move between environments.
- Collaborate closely with engineers who are also working in Cursor, building a shared understanding of both the vision and the implementation.
- Use Claude and other AI tools throughout your process — for planning, discovery, ideation, and iteration — and bring a thoughtful perspective on what's working and what isn't.
- Make accessibility and usability quality checks a natural part of your workflow, not an afterthought.
- Contribute to the design team's shared learning around new workflows, tooling, and approaches.
- Contribute to our design system, ensuring that variables, tokens, and components stay well-structured and useful in both Figma and code.
Critical Skills/Experience:
We're looking for a designer who is as excited about where this is all going as they are about doing the work today. You're a great fit if this sounds like you:
- You've moved past Figma-only design. You understand Figma's role in your process, but you're not dependent on it to make design decisions. You're comfortable refining experiences closer to the code.
- You're genuinely engaging with AI design tools. You've used Cursor, Claude, or similar tools in your actual work, and you can speak to what worked, what didn't, and what you're still figuring out.
- You embrace ambiguity as part of the job. This space is new. The tooling will keep changing. The right person is energized by figuring things out, not destabilized by it.
- You move fast and make decisions. You work well in small teams where velocity matters, and you're confident making UX calls even when you don't have all the answers.
- You communicate clearly with engineers. You understand that the engineer makes the final code commit, and you know how to stay in the loop, advocate for the experience, and trust your teammates.
- You have a meticulous eye for detail. Design quality matters to you — not just at the keyframe stage, but through to what ships.
- You're curious and humble. You ask good questions, share what you're learning, and don't need to have all the answers to be effective.
Bonus Points
- You understand Figma variables, design tokens, and how they connect to design systems in code.
- You've been embedded on a product team (as opposed to a centralized design org).
- You have experience with complex B2B or enterprise SaaS products.
The Ideal ClearGov Candidate:
- Self-motivated, self-starter with a zeal to win
- Great communicator; strong oral and written skills
- Ability to think creatively and innovatively
- Hands-on problem solver who enjoys cracking difficult nuts
- Quick study – able to pick up and apply new concepts in a hurry
- Track record of achievement
- Enjoys working on and helping to build outstanding teams
- Demonstrates an entrepreneurial spirit and gets stuff done
- A sense of humor and don’t take themselves too seriously
