About the role
Passport is seeking an Indirect Tax Accountant/Analyst to join a growing global tax function within a fast-paced international business. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys the real substance of tax work: turning complex transaction data into accurate filings, keeping pace with changing rules, and helping build scalable compliance processes across jurisdictions.
You will report directly to the Director of Indirect Tax and play a meaningful role in how Passport manages indirect tax globally. It is a hands-on role with broad exposure, real ownership, and strong professional development potential for a solid mid-level finance or tax professional who is comfortable with recurring compliance work, large data sets, and multi-jurisdictional deadlines.
Because we are a lean team, you will gain visibility not only into how returns are filed, but also into how tax data, processes, and controls are built, reviewed, and improved across the business.
What you’ll do
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and ad hoc indirect tax filing data and supporting workpapers across multiple jurisdictions
Prepare and file indirect tax returns directly in tax authority portals where appropriate, while coordinating with external advisors where needed
Help bring selected straightforward compliance filings in-house where that makes sense from a quality, efficiency, and cost perspective
Reconcile tax data to transaction reports, invoices, source systems, and payment records, and investigate discrepancies
Track filing calendars, payment deadlines, and tax payment statuses to help ensure returns and payments are completed on time
Support tax registrations, tax authority notices, information requests, and audit support matters across relevant jurisdictions
Monitor indirect tax developments across assigned regions, summarize practical implications, and help maintain internal trackers of tax changes and compliance actions
Work closely with Finance, Sales, Customer Success, and Engineering to improve the quality, consistency, and usability of tax data
Support tax-related projects across the business, including process improvements, new market launches, and operational or product changes with tax impact
Help build and document repeatable processes that make the Indirect Tax function more scalable over time
What you’ll need
3–5 years of experience in tax, accounting, or finance, ideally with some exposure to indirect tax
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Tax, Economics, or a related field
Strong attention to detail and a disciplined approach to deadline-driven, accuracy-sensitive work
Strong Excel or Google Sheets skills, including comfort working with large and sometimes imperfect data sets
Familiarity with AI platforms
Good understanding of accounting fundamentals and how transaction data flows into tax reporting
Strong written and spoken English
Ability to work independently in a fully remote environment, stay organized across multiple priorities, and operate effectively in a fast-moving business
Genuine interest in tax and curiosity about how tax rules work in practice
Comfort working in an environment where processes are still evolving and not everything is fully structured yet
Nice to have
Experience with international VAT, GST, or sales tax compliance
Experience in eCommerce, logistics, fintech, or another cross-border business environment
Familiarity with the indirect tax environment across the Americas, especially Mexico, Canada, and the US
Experience working with external tax advisors or supporting responses to tax authorities
Experience improving reconciliations, compliance trackers, process documentation, or internal controls
Who will excel in this role
Someone who genuinely enjoys tax work and takes pride in getting the details right
A person who brings structure and clarity to messy data and recurring processes
Someone who is dependable, practical, and calm under deadline pressure
A professional who wants broad international exposure, strong hands-on learning, and the opportunity to build deep expertise in indirect tax
Someone who enjoys being part of a lean team where ownership matters, good judgment counts, and everyone plays a meaningful role
