The Team:
The Finance team at Sourgum is building the foundation for scale. Our mission is to deliver timely, accurate, and actionable financial insights that fuel smarter decision-making across the company. From designing revenue recognition processes in a complex marketplace model to implementing scalable systems for payables and receivables, we’re creating the financial infrastructure that enables growth.
As an Accounting Manager, you’ll play a critical role in this effort — owning core accounting operations, ensuring GAAP compliance, and strengthening the processes that will set us up for long-term success.
The Role:
This is a role based out of Jersey City, NJ. Once office space is secured, employees will be expected to be in office Tuesday through Thursday.
We’re seeking a hands-on, detail-oriented Accounting Manager to join our Finance team. Reporting to the VP of Finance, you’ll manage day-to-day accounting operations, own key portions of the month-end close, and ensure the accuracy and integrity of our financial statements.
This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced startup environment, is excited about building processes from scratch, and has the technical foundation to support Sourgum through its next stage of growth.
What you’ll be doing:
Manage core accounting operations, including general ledger, AP, AR, payroll, and reconciliations.
Own significant portions of the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process to ensure timely and accurate reporting.
Prepare and review journal entries, reconciliations, and financial schedules in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
Assist with implementing and refining revenue recognition policies in line with ASC 606 for our marketplace model.
Partner with the VP of Finance to design and implement scalable systems, controls, and reporting.
Support external audit and tax processes by preparing documentation, schedules, and analyses.
Drive process improvements and automation to increase efficiency and accuracy.
The qualifications you need:
CPA strongly preferred, not required.
4–7 years of progressive accounting experience, ideally including experience as a Senior Accountant or Accounting Manager.
Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP; exposure to ASC 606 is a plus.
Experience in startups, marketplaces, or other transaction-heavy businesses preferred.
Advanced proficiency with accounting systems (QuickBooks Online, NetSuite, or similar).
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to partner cross-functionally.
A self-starter mentality with a strong work ethic, grit, and desire to build from the ground up.
